| The Charleston Amputee Support Team (CAST) is a group of like minded individuals with the common goal of helping amputees and their families through the emotional trauma caused by the loss of a limb through learning...sharing...living and most importantly...caring.
The CAST group was established at the request of a group of Charleston area amputees. It is designed for the new and the mature amputee. The group was not established to promote any business. It was established to help people better cope with the loss of their limb. Guest speakers, to include medical professionals, are invited to discuss topics which concern members of the group and their families.
Seven Qualities of Effective Helpers
1) Empathy...sharing in another person's feelings or emotions
2) Respect...an appreciation for the dignity and worth of others
3) Genuineness...freely being one's self
4) Warmth...affection, kindliness, friendliness
5) Self-disclosure...revealing personal feelings and a bit of your own life
6) Presence...being available for others and exhibiting self-confidence
7) Compassion...sorrow for the suffering of others
